Do you know where your fear comes from? Is it a childhood
memory or are you carrying someone else pain? Can you find the place where it
started and turn it into your greatest strength… All too often our fear is based on a past experience and has
nothing to do with our present circumstances but finding where it began can be
a challenge. We have a tendency to avoid pain, though we are experiencing it every
day.
Sometimes the fear we experience doesn’t belong to us at all….
It can be a buried memory of something our parents, family, or even our cultural
ancestors experienced. Yet we carry it all the same.
Here is a simple meditation that can help your break through
your fears…. You’ll have to be brave. We hate setting with our fears…. It makes
us uncomfortable but if you can push through it and just let it be. Don’t judge
it; don’t interact with it at all. Just sit with it gently and know it has no
control over you…. You can do this, I know you can.
Now….
Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Set
comfortably and close your eyes. Breathe…
Take a deep breath as you settle yourself in…. Breathe slowly and deeply,
feeling yourself relax with each breath. Breathe and go deeper… breathe and go deeper
still… Know that you are safe and protected in this sacred space. Breathe
Now think of your greatest fear…. Is it failure or loss, or
death, or poverty, or…. You fill in the blank. Now call it to your mind and
just let it be…. Sit with it, know that it is there but also know that it cannot
hurt you, that it is just a thought, nothing more than a thought and just sit
with it.
At first it will feel uncomfortable; you’ll feel yourself
starting to squirm in your seat…. You’ll want to open your eyes but don’t… just
push through it and feel yourself begin to relax into it, knowing that it can’t
hurt you it is no more than a thought.
Stay there for a few moments and say…. You have no control over me, you
have no control over me, you have no control over me…. And release
Now slowly open your eyes…. Take a deep cleansing breath and
say…. You have no control over me!
I want you to feel really proud of yourself. You have taken
the first step to controlling your own life.
Practice this once a day and whenever you begin to feel anxious
or fearful. And remember your power words… You have no control over me!
